Event Overview

A study of employees in the marcomms sector by Question and Retain found that 66% of employees aged 25 and under working from home during COVID-19 are suffering signs of mental ill-health. Along with pressures of social isolation in lockdown, these are difficult and unsettling times for people in the industry being put on furlough and even facing redundancy. For those in the earlier stages of their careers - from students to those working in the industry - this anxiety is combined with uncertainty over planning career paths and skills development in light of COVID-19.

For this online event, the PRCA NextGen Scotland group has called on experts in both employment law and recruitment to give you advice on managing your career during/post-lockdown. There will also be an opportunity following speaker presentations for attendee discussions around mental health and wellbeing in lockdown and sharing positive coping strategies.

We'll be joined by 2 employment law solicitors from Bellwether Green, Emma Reid and Cathy Donald to help you understand your rights around furlough and redundancy.

Both Emma and Cathy have been keeping up to speed with the Job Retention ('furlough') scheme and related guidance and have been providing employers and employees with advice on this novel area of law and its interaction with existing employment law particularly in redundancy situations. Furlough, and the particular challenges of Covid-19 have brought swift and far reaching changes (some temporary, some potentially more long-lasting) to the workplace.

Camryn Anderson (Senior Consultant, Marketing and Communications Specialist Recruiter at Hays) will offer insight into the communications job market, giving tips on how to boost your employability and skills development in the current climate.

Camryn is an experienced Marketing Communications Consultant with a demonstrated history of working in the staffing and recruiting industry. She is currently top in the UK for Marketing & Communications recruitment within Hays.

The event will be held on Zoom with opportunities to ask questions after the speaker presentations in a Q&A or in private via breakout rooms, however if you would prefer to pose a question in advance to the speakers please get in touch with Scotland Coordinator, Wilma Littlejohn – wilma.littlejohn@prca.org.uk
