Event Overview
Diversity in healthcare has been discussed for many years, but unfortunately, it still remains a major issue in 2021. Emerging data collected during the current COVID-19 pandemic has revealed societal inequalities and biases within the healthcare system are disproportionately affecting the health and wellbeing of ethnic minority communities around the world. B Algorithms in AI health technology has also been found to perpetuate existing biases against minority populations.
This lack of diversity also extends to the medical research community (both within academia and in clinical trial design and recruitment) and as great leaps in our understanding of the human genome are rapidly expanding our capacity to better tailor treatment to individual patients, a shortage of genomic research data in persons of non-European ancestry is impeding our ability to use genomics in the clinical care of non-European individuals.
Progress is slow, but it is being made and it has never been more important to elevate the diversity agenda within healthcare and healthcare communications than it is today.
Join us for a frank and honest discussion about how to move the needle and a spotlight on some recent success in doing just that.
