PRCA Invest Group and Emerging Markets Group: Communicating your African growth story

Event Type: Group Event

Event Overview

Sub-Saharan Africa is one of the world’s major growth markets and in our latest event we talk to some of the leading experts on the African continent on how Sub-Saharan Africa is managing the pandemic, interesting growth sectors, notable corporate success stories over the past 18 months and how to build a successful communications strategy for African companies, from considerations as a start-up to positioning yourself for international market growth.

We’ll hear from Mythri Sambasivan-George, founder of Vetri Consulting, a strategy, ESG, corporate transaction and enterprise development advisory firm. Mythri is also a founding director of the Angel Network Botswana, leading the member network on investments and building angel partnerships into the startup ecosystem both within and beyond Botswana’s borders into Africa and other growth markets. She has over two decades of experience working in Africa.

You’ll also hear from Joel Kibazo who has a wide and extensive experience spanning the world of journalism, broadcasting, diplomacy, management and finance with some of the leading institutions in the world. He is a partner at JK Associates and former Manging Director-Africa at FTI Consulting and Director of External Relations & Communications at the African Development Bank. Joel was also a journalist at the Financial Times for 12 years.

Some areas that will be explored include:
•    What are the misconceptions that African businesses face?
•    Start-up to scale-up – how to communicate a growth story in Africa and how do companies in the region communicate their narratives successfully? Are there tactics or techniques that are unique to Africa or that may differ from elsewhere in the world?
•    What do international investors look for in African companies? What makes a good investment story, and how can this be told?
•    What should African companies be prepared to address when looking to raise capital internationally?
•    What should communications professionals operating outside of Africa be aware of when working in the region for the first time?

The event will be chaired by Christopher Garnett who has had for many years a special interest in the business world, political scene and financial markets of Africa – and in emerging markets generally. He worked full time for Euromoney from 1988 to 2016. He was the director of their conferences business and a group executive committee member. He now runs his own consultancy, ChuteCourt Asesores Limited, which helps funds, media companies, banks and others make links, develop business and do deals around the world.

Zoom links will be sent out to all attendees 24 hours prior to the event start time. If you sign up after this time, please contact kyrie.abrahams@prca.org.uk for the link.
