Trainer: Judi Goodwin

Trainer and Writing Coach Judi Goodwin specialises in helping people to access their creativity and has taught thousands of people to write fluently and with impact. She combines a wealth of experience in journalism with a whole-person approach enabling participants to overcome their personal barriers.

She began her career in PR and advertising but when she made the transition to journalism more than 30 years ago, she initially battled with writer’s block. Always fascinated by how the mind works, she researched the psychology of writing to overcome her own difficulties.  Now she passes on these techniques in her inspirational workshops.

Previous students include journalist members of the NUJ, financial wizards at The Bank of England, life-term prisoners at HM Prison Styal and people with mental health challenges. Her workshops build confidence and self-discovery – and she believes people learn best when they’re having fun!

Testimonials

"I wanted to say thank you for yesterday’s training and to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it.  As someone who is quite new to writing and doesn’t have a lot of experience, I was a little apprehensive to say the least about this and being in a group of professional writers did make me a little nervous.  However, once I got over myself, drank my lemsip and got stuck in, I found it fun and with the shackles of worrying about grammar and spelling off (for first drafts), I found it much easier than I thought I was going to.

With your tools and giving myself a little more time – and not a hard time, I will approach any writing projects I do with much more enthusiasm and remind myself I have written pieces in the past with carefree abandonment and without apprehension, (Tales of Monty and The Last 100 days of Maternity)."

Gayle Alexander, Queens University Belfast

Loved the practical examples, and found that I was inspired to be bolder with my writing choices. “

“It was incredibly engaging and fun without being too in your face or awkward.  Also, the small number in the group was perfect, making interactions more meaningful."

"I also thought the content was paced just right.  It wasn't rushed at all, it wasn't information overload in one go, it was easily digestible, and the exercises, although they could have been longer, may have taken away from the point of the exercises.”

“It helped me to realise I am more creative than I thought. Also, encouraged me to write more often”
