Meet the PRCA NextGen Scotland Committee: Hannah Fisher

1. Tell us a little about your current role and career to date

Studying multimedia journalism at Glasgow Caledonian University, I was always intrigued by the blend of writing and business that a career in PR seemed to offer. I was fortunate to secure a placement at Smarts Communicate in 2016 which extended into a full-time position, where I had a fantastic introduction to the world of communications. From trucks to Scottish Government behaviour awareness campaigns, I enjoyed a brilliant array of campaigns to get stuck into and build experience across media relations, social media copy writing and stakeholder engagement skills.

I joined the BIG Partnership team in 2019 where I’m currently an account manager, working predominantly across corporate communications and where I’ve found my love of working with clients in the construction, property and built environment sectors. Yes, it really is that glamourous! Over the last three years, I’ve worked with legal firms, banks, real estate developers and contractors to name but a few, and have really accelerated my media relation skills surrounded by a hugely talented team.

2. Is there any aspect of your job you particularly enjoy?

No matter how long you’ve been in the job, there’s no better feeling that seeing a smashing piece of coverage land for a client. Result.

3. And any aspect you don't enjoy?

Agency life can be full on at times, and the ability to plan ahead difficult with a consistently changing news agenda. Although this is part of the fun, it would be nice to have control over your to-do list more regularly.

4. What career advice would you give to your younger self?

Enjoy the journey, you’re not expected to know the ropes without having the hands-on experience.

5. Why did you decide to join the PRCA Scotland/NextGen Committee?

Throughout my career to date, I’ve attended numerous PRCA events which have been incredibly valuable to my development. You can never underestimate the power of networking and consistently developing your skillset in PR, so I wanted the opportunity to be a part of enabling that for others across the industry.

6. If you didn’t work in PR, what would be your dream job?

I love property and design. If I had the bank balance to enable it, I’d love to invest money into property and refurbishment projects.
