A Word From The South West Chairman: 2018 PRCA DARE Awards

The industry awards season is upon us and kicked off in style with the PRCA South West DARE Awards in Bristol. The evening was a testament to the groundbreaking campaigns run in the region over the past 12 months and a real celebration of hard work, teamwork, and achievement. Congratulations to all of the winners (a full list of winners including the judges’ comments can be found here).

As the DARE Awards ceremonies illustrate, banging the drum for the industry is rewarding and not only from a marketing perspective. Business West identified ‘talent attraction’ and ‘employee motivation’ as two other key reasons to enter awards and from the reaction of the teams in Bristol, the latter was evident in spades.

In addition to warming the hearts of your colleagues, clients, and bosses, the role of awards in attracting young talent to the industry is vital to the continued growth and progression of PR & communications industry. Working together to promote the industry – whether through awards, speaking at local schools and colleges, mentoring, or apprenticeship schemes - will undoubtedly raise the profile of a career in communications and attract talent. Our War for Talent event in Bristol on Thursday, 20th September, will focus in on this theme.

On the subject of young talent, in this summer's South West newsletter we’re showcasing the views of the PRCA South West’s DARE Rising Star Award winner – Jenny Briggs MPRCA from Greenhouse PR. Find out more in ’10 minutes with…’.

After mulling over the additional benefits to winning awards, now’s probably a good time to mention the PRCA National Awards. Open to all PR and communications professionals, it’s another chance to showcase the excellent work that is being done in your organisation, the South West, and the industry. Don’t miss out!
